My Story ...

I chose my business name as it says exactly what I do on the tin; I am a practising Registered Midwife, I am a level 6 trained reflexology and RZT practitioner; I am ‘The Midwife Reflexologist’.

Way before I became a Midwife, I trained 25+ years ago as a reflexologist. I found that working on certain areas of the feet promoted a high success rate of women greater than 40 weeks gestation to spontaneously go into labour within a shortened period of time following treatment. Almost ten years later I had a child myself and decided to retrain to become a Midwife.

During my training, I was required to write a dissertation as part of the degree programme, and I chose to write about ‘Complementary therapies and induction of labour’. I always knew I would combine both my reflexology training with my midwifery training, I just did not know when that would be as life is so busy.

When the Covid -19 pandemic struck, alongside watching the induction of labour rate increase following the review of the NICE 2021 guidelines, it allowed me to re-evaluate my plans and embark on renewing my passion for reflexology. I enrolled in the London-based Reflex Zone Therapy (RZT) level six programme facilitated by Denise Tiran- midwifery educator and internationally renowned authority on complementary therapies.

As a Midwife practitioner, I am very much aware that maternal satisfaction is reduced when women do not labour spontaneously, and an induction of labour is offered by obstetric medical professionals. We live in a society of never-ending pressure and that pressure is something I see daily that pregnant women put themselves under.

How amazing would it be to see a Midwife with no real-time constraints which your NHS Midwife is under, to give time for you and your well-being, to discuss any of your concerns, whilst providing you a treatment to alleviate your pregnancy and postnatal anxieties.

Nothing invasive, no intimate procedures, no stresses or worries regarding medical
management, just a treatment to not only promote relaxation, increase your own natural oxytocin, and reduce your adrenalin and cortisol, but to equally work on the zones of your feet and acupressure points to facilitate your own body’s natural ability to encourage spontaneous labour.
